A strategy game with role-playing elements where the player has no direct control over their units.

A review by James

Majesty: The Fantasy Kingdom Sim is a video game developed by Cyberlore Studios and published by MicroProse for Windows on March 21, 20001. MacPlay released a Mac OS release in December 2000. Infogrames released a Majesty expansion pack  titledThe Northern Expansion for Windows in March 2001, and a compilation of the game and extension named Majesty Gold Edition in January 2002. Linux Game Publishing has released a Linux version of Majesty Gold Edition in April 2003. The gameplay is a unique (at the time) two-dimensional real-time strategy game that mixes strategy and role play. The basic concept is the management of a city, but with very little micromanagement required. All units are heroes which act on their own. The player can only send orders to his/her units indirectly, such as sending general orders. This concept is interesting, but does not give players enough gameplay satisfaction as they just sit back and watch their units do their own thing.

TL;DR: Majesty is a unique sim putting you in the crushed velvet hotseat of your own kingdom. With an epic quest before you, you make the decisions of where to build your settlement’s guilds and temples.
