A review by Michael

Windows Live Photo Gallery is a photo organizing, editing and sharing application that is a part of the now discontinued Windows Live Essentials (also known as Windows Essentials) software package. It is considered as the successor of the well known Windows Vista application, “Windows Photo Gallery”.

In a digital world of images, Windows Live Photo Gallery is essential

Over the past decade, images have become a key part of our everyday lives. Windows Live Photo Gallery includes key functions such as sharing images from your computer straight onto popular image sharing websites, such as Facebook and Flickr. Windows Live Photo Gallery also allowed users to download publically shared images from another Windows product, known as “Windows Live Spaces”, with full HD quality. Another key feature is that it allows users to store images on their local device in a highly compressed, XMP1 metadata format which would take up less space. Although it was extremely revolutionary at its release, it has mostly been deprecated today, but is still a useful tools for you to browse through and share images. One key disadvantage of Windows Live Photo Gallery, which would make it a bit useless today, is the fact that it cannot view .gif images – which is quite a drawback considering GIFs have become commonplace in today’s web environment.

Windows Live Photo Gallery 2011

Windows Live Photo Gallery 2011 was released in 2010 as a part of the Windows Live Essentials 2011 suite, alongside other Windows freeware applications such as Windows Movie Maker and Windows SkyDrive. It featured improvements such as tagging images according to geographcal location (known as geotagging), certain graphics editing tools (such as noise reduction) as well as a surprisingly advanced for the time face recognition tool.
