A review by Peter

Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six 3: Raven Shield is a tactical first-person shooter developed by Red Storm Entertainment and published by Ubisoft in 2003 on Windows. The game has also been ported for other platforms such as GameCube, Mac OS X, PlayStation 2 and Xbox. The game consists of short back-to-back missions, where you normally are required to rescue hostages.

Become and agent for Rainbow

In the PC version, the player assumed the role of agent working for the international agency Rainbow. The story is about foiling the plans of a powerful businessman who made his fortune in South America. The first cinematic of the game consists of a flashback in 1945, in Croatia featuring two supporters of Nazism in a bank. At the present time, the same building is assaulted by men wishing to remove some of the compromising documents…

Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six 3: Raven Shield has two main gameplay stages

Planning phase

This phase consists distributing Rainbow agents in different groups (Red, Green and Gold), then assigning each of them weapons. Finally, the player has the possibility to create an intervention plan (by tracing the path of the different groups, adding points corresponding to specific actions, such as sending a smoke grenade to a certain place etc.) in order to complete the mission successfully.

Action phase

In this phase, the player assumed the leader of his group, either alone or with teammates. To succeed in these missions, the player must interact with his platoon, asking them to open doors, clean rooms, or even throw grenades, without these actions having been planned in advance during the planning phase.
